Responsibilities

Facilitate individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher; direct group activities of students as assigned
Assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans and conducting early learning and child development activities; assists in preparing materials used in instructional activities; collect assessment data; maintain student files as assigned
Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating equipment and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials
Assist teacher in collecting and organizing data on student learning; follow-up on student absences
Assist in monitoring lunchroom, recess and other playground activities; lead indoor and outdoor activities planned by the teacher; accompany students on field trips as assigned
Observe and manage behavior of students in the classroom and during outdoor activities according to approved procedures; guide students into safe play activities; report progress regarding student performance and behavior
Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, copying and filing instructional materials
Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a copier, printer, laminator, computer and assigned software
Assist children with toileting and changing those who have experienced toileting accidents; may assist students to develop self-help skills
Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner; administer basic first aid as needed and seek assistance for non-routine illnesses and injuries
Perform minor housekeeping tasks in maintaining a neat, clean, orderly and safe classroom and playground atmosphere
Perform special projects and prepare materials on behalf of the teacher
Attend meetings and participate in training workshops, conferences, courses and a variety of professional growth activities as required
Perform related duties as assigned

Required

Graduation from high school
Twelve (12) semester units, or equivalent quarter units, of early childhood education or child development core classes at an accredited college, university or occupational program
Valid California driver's license
Transcripts must be included with application
Effective September 1, 2016, must be immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles or meet exemption requirements

Benefits

Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments.
The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) days depending on the work calendar.
Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.
All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security.
If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security.
Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.
The District offers a comprehensive health benefits program for employees who work twenty (20) hours or more per week.
This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees.
For full-time employees the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans.
For part-time employees plans are available on a prorated basis.
Dependent coverage is available.
Professional growth points shall be earned by employee participation while in non-paid status in activities which are employment related.
Professional growth points are awarded annually and accumulate at $20 per approved Professional Growth Point and/or tuition and textbook reimbursement up to $500 is also available - limited to one per year.
