HOUSING ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST I (SR-16) [1 vacancy]

Responsibilities

Process housing applications by evaluating income documentation, verifying financial data, and determining eligibility for Federal Section 8 programs
Conduct educational briefings for tenants and landlords to explain program regulations, housing quality standards, and participant responsibilities
Facilitate housing placements by reviewing rental agreements, coordinating unit inspections, and initiating rental assistance payments
Manage ongoing caseloads through annual reexaminations and adjusting payment levels based on changes in family income or circumstances
Maintain program compliance by documenting case files, mediating landlord-tenant disputes, and performing fraud investigations
Perform other related duties as needed

Required

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States of a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university
Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree
Four (4) years of professional work experience, in any occupation, may substitute for a general bachelor's degree
Four (4) years of general work experience (does not need to be professional level experience) in case management/social services/eligibility work or related may substitute for a general bachelor's degree

Must be able to perform basic research methods and techniques

Must be able to learn, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the program
Must be able to learn interviewing principles and techniques
Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with others

Vacation: Employees may earn up to 21 days per year.
