Summer Camp Assistant Site Supervisor (3 positions)
The City of Deerfield Beach is looking for Summer Camp Assistant Site Supervisors to assist in leading and supervising summer camp activities. The role involves providing leadership to staff, ensuring safety and compliance with camp guidelines, and organizing recreational activities for children aged 5 to 15.

Responsibilities
Provide leadership to camp counselors and campers
Ensure the staff is complying with policies and procedures set by The City of Deerfield Beach. Including but not limited to, record keeping, adhering to uniform policies and attendance
Ensure the staff and campers are maintaining daily scheduled routines, traditions and programming
Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas
Assist in supervising as many as 16 staff members and up to 150 children on a daily basis
Teach young staff to foster positive youth development
Assist in the program content and structure while working closely with Site Supervisor, camp leadership, parents and families
Oversee all camp activities to ensure appropriate counselor coverage, and assist counselors with as well as participate in all camp recreational activities and programs (i.e. pool, art/crafts, sports, games etc.)
Regulate and uphold check in/out procedures by requiring ID for all adults and checking registration forms
Supervise and provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality children’s program
Organize, lead and provide a variety of high-quality small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, Family Night, etc. This includes time spent on the bus
Manage children's behavior and act as a role model and mentor. Model constructive participation in all daily activities and field trips
Communicate with campers’ parents/guardians regarding experiences and report concerns to camp leadership
Ensure all children in the assigned group are accounted for onsite, and on field trips; conduct headcount for groups when loading buses, upon trip arrival/departure and throughout the day
Ensure the camp site is presentable at all times and is kept clean, organized and free of litter
Interact effectively and professionally with fellow employees, program participants, supervisors, staff, instructors, and the general public
Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance
Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program
Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of the position
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Full attendance for the nine-week summer and attend all staff meetings and training
Qualification
Required
Prior experience working with children ages 5 – 15; minimum one (1) season of paid experience with a summer camp, school or recreational program; certified teachers with a minimum of one (1) year teaching experience; one (1) year previous summer recreation leader experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be 18 years or older
High School Diploma or equivalent certificate
First Aid and CPR Certification is mandatory, and must be current throughout camp
Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with leadership/programming in recreational or educational environments
Ability to manage individual and group behavior in various activities and settings
Knowledge and ability to apply leadership and behavior-management techniques effectively
Ability to work with children of various ages by demonstrating patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to handle disruptive children effectively
Ability to interpret and appropriately apply health and safety procedures
Ability to lead and supervise others
Ability to serve as a positive role model, including attitude, punctuality, treating others with respect, sportsmanship, etc
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, parents/guardians
Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of the position
Background check (fingerprinting) is required; all fingerprints will be checked through State of Florida's Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
Must successfully pass drug test and physical exam
Must be available to work for the entire program at assigned location
Mandatory workday for the July 4th Celebration at the beach
