Assistant Electrical Inspector - SR-16
NEOGOV is seeking an Assistant Electrical Inspector for the County of Hawai`i. The role involves inspecting and testing electrical installations and equipment in buildings to ensure compliance with codes and safety standards, as well as performing related duties as required.

Responsibilities
May review applications for electrical permits, checks and verifies information recorded on application with related building permits on file, and verify permit fees according to established rates schedule
Reviews less complex electrical plans to determine whether proposed wiring and equipment meet code requirements
Notes appropriate permit fees according to established rates
Inspects electrical installations and equipment in existing and new residential and small commercial and industrial buildings for compliance with the provisions of the County electrical codes and ordinances, and with the National Electrical Codes
Checks type, size, and number of wires, boxes, outlets, and conduits being installed
Checks load on feeder lines by conducting necessary tests
Checks wiring of appliances and equipment
Issues correction notices, stop work orders, notices of violations, orders, and follows up to see that violations are corrected
Makes recommendations to electrical contractors or owners concerning the correct methods of installing electrical wiring or equipment
Rejects or approves electrical installations and issues certificates of approval when work is approved in its final phases
Inspects installation of solar water heater and photovoltaic systems for compliance with County Codes, National Electrical Codes, engineered plans, and specifications
Inputs and checks permit status updates in the permitting software system and/or other applications
As necessary, consults with supervisors in cases of doubt over interpretation of codes or ordinances, or in cases of disagreement with electrical contractors
May assist higher level inspectors by inspecting phases of large and complex multi-storied buildings
Keeps work records and prepares reports of inspections made
Check for compliance to contracting and trade licensing laws
Assists with investigation of premises where fires occurred to determine whether fires were due to electrical causes
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school
Four (4) years of experience in the supervision and/or installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of electrical equipment, wiring, and apparatus as a journeylevel electrician
Possession of a State of Hawai'i Journey-level or Supervising Electrician's License at time of filing (scan and attach a copy of your license to your application)
Possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at time of filing (You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at time of hire)
