Responsibilities
Receives, logs, enters, and processes clinical and environmental samples for testing at the Louisiana Public Health Laboratory
Assesses submitted samples to ensure proper handling, quality, and integrity during transport and receipt
Performs data entry and maintains accurate laboratory records in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements
Conducts quality control and maintenance activities, including temperature monitoring, inventory control, supply distribution, and preparation of laboratory media
Supports laboratory analysis functions by adhering to federal and state laboratory regulations, including CLIA standards, and maintaining compliance with accreditation requirements
Provides effective communication and client service while supporting the laboratory’s public health mission and contributing to continuous improvement of diagnostic services
Qualification
Required
Two years of experience as a laboratory technician
An associate or bachelor's degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a laboratory technician
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science plus one year of experience as a laboratory technician
Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science
Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
Preferred
Experience working in a laboratory, especially experience working in an accessioning operation for clinical and/or environmental specimens
Familiarity with CLIA regulations
Customer service skills and experience interacting with laboratory customers
Experience with using a laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
Experience with typing and data entry skills
