Responsibilities
Conducts thorough investigations, collects and evaluates evidence concerning alleged violations of the insurance laws
Contacts and interviews consumers, industry representatives and members of the public with regard to investigations
Prepares and submits written oral reports on investigations. Upon completion, makes recommendation for final action to the Senior Associate General Counsel and/or associate attorney assigned to review files
Provides monthly progress report on investigative activities and significant investigative matters to the Investigations Unit Supervisor and Reviewing officials
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with State, Local, and Federal Law Enforcement
Provides assistance to upper-level management upon request
Performs related duties as required
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties
A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience
Must have a valid SC driver's license
Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations applicable to the job
Knowledge of investigative techniques, principles and practices
Ability to evaluate evidence and conduct investigations
Knowledge of rules of evidence
Ability to analyze facts and reach sound conclusions
Ability to present clear, concise and comprehensive written and oral reports
Ability to testify in criminal trials or administrative hearings
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with officials, claimants, attorneys, witnesses, governmental agencies, industry representatives, and the general public
Ability to respond professionally during stressful situations
Must have demonstrated knowledge
Must be able to work at times under minimal supervision, with some independence but with a high degree of competence
Must be able to work in a team setting, at times under stressful situations, be able to travel frequently within state and at times overnight
Must have demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and software; and investigative policies and procedures
Skills and abilities must include problem solving, decision making and planning, verbal and written communication, and interviewing witnesses
Preferred
Bachelor's degree and experience conducting criminal or civil investigations, or performing other law enforcement duties
Law enforcement/investigative experience can be substituted for a degree
