Responsibilities

Supervises staff to include preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork. Coaches, counsels and trains employees. Establishes and monitors work processes. Implements management policies and initiatives and promotes teamwork
In charge of developing the museum's Exhibits and Interpretive Program and subsequent scheduling under the supervision of the Executive Director. The Chief Curator oversees planning, research, implementation, fabrication and installation. The Chief Curator works with the Executive Director to developing a vision for the exhibition program that encompasses high educational values while appealing to visitors. Ensuring all research is conducted in a scholarly and academic manner to insure the highest standard of accuracy in portraying SC military history. The Chief Curator also oversees program development that complements and enhances the museum's exhibits. The Chief Curator is also responsible for developing traveling exhibits for SC museums, libraries, or public or private schools, that enhance the academic reputation of the museum
The Chief Curator is in charge of all the museum's programming, oversees development, scheduling, and implementing educational programs for public, private, and home school students, by the Education Curator. He or she also develops and schedules regular lecture programs, and special weekend programs, overseeing the efforts of the Curators of History and Education. He or she is over Outreach Travel Programs. The Chief Curator ensures that programming dovetails with the mission and collection of the museum, under the supervision of the Executive Director
In charge of all the museum's collections. The Chief Curator supervises the Registrar in developing and a comprehensive Collections Plan and keeping it constantly updated. He or she ensures that the Registrar develops, implements, and maintains the museum's collection policy and procedures to maintain adherence to AAM and AASLH standards. He or she is responsible for the interpretation of the museum's collections under the supervision of the Executive Director, which should form the foundation for the museum's exhibits and exhibit programs
The Chief Curator is over the museum's scholarly publications programs, ensuring that all research and writing are conducted in a scholarly and academic manner to ensure the highest standard of accuracy and enhance the museum's reputation. He or she oversees the editing and review of pending publications under the supervision of the Executive Director

Required

A master's degree in museum administration, history, public administration or a related field and five (5) years' experience (Related experience must at least include curatorial or collections management practices, experience developing exhibits and prior supervisory experience.)
Strong writing and proofreading skills a necessity
Position may require overnight travel
Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends
Position requires on-call shifts and call back
Position requires routine driver duties
Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending
Position requires frequent lifting: 40 lbs
Position requires Essential declaration
Position may be required to report to work during emergency situations
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Work is performed primarily in an office environment, but travel and field work will be required in areas where there are some risks and hazards that are known, predictable and controllable
