Heavy Equipment Mechanic - CNG & Electric Bus Fleet Technician
NEOGOV is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join their team at Ontario International Airport. The role involves the maintenance and repair of CNG and electric bus systems, including complex repairs on electric vehicles, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities
Performs complex repairs on electric vehicles and shop facility equipment to include electric drive motors, high voltage vehicle electrical system, voltage inverters, electronic control transmissions, battery packs, ride height suspension systems, suspension linkages, steering linkages, kingpins, wheel bearings, tires, air brake systems including anti-lock braking system, multiplex electrical systems, lighting systems, Bendix air systems, heating, air conditioning systems, bus fare collection and intelligent transit systems
Following original equipment manufacturer (OEM) diagnostic process and procedures, troubleshoot electric vehicles, electric vehicle charging stations and or equipment by selecting the most efficient method, and repair the vehicle to OEM specification
Actively participate in the reporting of safety issues and concerns that are observed during essential job functions
Complete A&B preventative maintenance service and safety checks on CNG and electric buses. Ensure all repairs of defects found during the preventative maintenance are complete before the bus returns to service. Complete an electronic check sheet with fleet maintenance software for each service. Assure that the vehicle is properly operating and is in a safe condition for the intended use of the vehicle before returning to service
Complete installation of specialized equipment such as two-way radios, computer/mobile data terminal mounts, intelligent transit systems, GPS equipment, body add-ons and decals. Modify vehicle systems to enhance usability. Troubleshoot, repair or replace these items as needed
Removes, repairs, overhauls, and installs engines, motors, brake systems, clutches, transmissions, differential assemblies, hydraulic pumps, and systems, valves, piping systems, tanks, fuel injection systems, and accessories commonly found on construction and road maintenance
Repairs ignition systems
Replaces broken gas lines, brake lines, hoist cables, steering gears, drive shafts, and other parts
Checks and aligns front ends
Straightens frames and axles
May repair or install lights, wiring systems, and other electrical parts, including emergency lighting
Inspects heavy equipment in the field to detect operating faults and to make minor repairs; outlines repair work to be done in the shop
Completes repair orders and vehicle condition reports; uses a data terminal or personal computer to input and retrieve maintenance information
Assembles trailers and mounts special equipment such as air compressors, water pumps or hoists; alters equipment to meet special requirements
Road tests equipment
Uses electric drills, grinders, valve facers, drill presses, hydraulic presses, hoists, overhead cranes, and other shop machines; operates motor analyzers, dynamometers, and various gauges
Performs welding and brazing
Inspects equipment in the shop to determine necessary work
While in the shop, subject to craft supervision and receives detailed assignments, either orally or in the form of plans, sketches, or written work orders
Performs annual CHP BIT inspections on a commercial fleet and provides accurate written inspection reports
Follows oral instructions, service manuals, or sketches
Makes routine reports and keeps routine records
May direct helpers or train apprentices
Occasionally perform light automobile and truck maintenance and repair work similar to that of an Equipment Mechanic
Does related work as assigned
May occasionally be assigned to other duties for training purposes or to meet airport requirements, technological changes, or emergencies
Repairs heavy construction, road maintenance, and firefighting equipment, including gasoline, diesel vehicles such as tractors, sweepers, skip loaders, fire apparatus, compressors, generators, pumps, riding mowers, and pneumatic tools; may repair automobiles, buses, and trucks
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Completion of recognized apprenticeship or attainment of journey-level rank as a heavy equipment mechanic; or
Total of ten years of full-time paid experience, with five years of full-time paid experience as a journey-level equipment mechanic which includes the repair of a variety of CNG engines, bus fleet and all electrical equipment, and heavy-duty gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles; or
Satisfactory completion of a junior college-level two-year course in auto or truck mechanics, or a comparable course of study in auto or truck mechanics in a trade or technical school and five years of full-time paid experience as a journey-level bus or heavy equipment mechanic
Previous journey level experience repairing and maintaining shuttle bus fleet is required when assigned to repair this equipment
Valid Driver's License equivalent to a California Class C driver's license. A valid Class A or B driver's license may be required within six months of hire
Acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment
Ability to pass all background / reference checks, knowledge examinations, as well as aptitude tests necessary to obtain an OIAA employee Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge at ONT
Preferred
Previous experience in maintenance and repair of all electric shuttle buses is highly desirable
Previous experience repairing fiberglass and molded plastic body panels and structures is highly desirable
