Responsibilities
Prosecute petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor criminal offenses, including traffic and ordinance violations
Review police reports, citations, and evidence to determine appropriate charges
Appear in court for arraignments, pretrial hearings, motion hearings, trials, and sentencing
Provide courtroom advocacy at all stages of prosecution, from arraignment through jury trial
Negotiate plea agreements and case resolutions consistent with law, policy, and public safety priorities
Conduct legal research and draft charging documents, pleadings, motions, and briefs
Prepare and present legal arguments, examine witnesses, and introduce evidence at trial
Advise law enforcement officers regarding charging decisions, legal procedures, and courtroom preparation
Maintain accurate case files and records in coordination with court administration
Ensure compliance with constitutional requirements, ethical obligations and prosecutorial and maintain positive relationships with client law enforcement agencies
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Admission to practice law in Minnesota and in good standing
Two to ten years of criminal prosecution experience
Strong knowledge of Minnesota criminal law, criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and constitutional law
Preferred
Prior municipal prosecution experience
Trial experience in misdemeanor or gross misdemeanor cases
Familiarity with municipal ordinances and local court practices
