Responsibilities

Performs daily routine maintenance on all equipment being utilized by the Highway Department throughout the county
This includes fueling, cleaning the radiators, and cleaning the outer air filters
The employee is responsible for keeping a detailed log of fuel added to each piece of equipment, including the fuel truck itself, as well as a checklist of completed tasks and materials used
The employee is responsible for servicing and maintaining documentation of service on all heavy equipment, with service to be done at predetermined intervals
This documentation is to be presented to the PLM III office daily for proper filing and audit purposes
In addition, this employee will at times be tasked with fueling other government agency equipment and vehicles, as well as generators
This is to be documented, charged to the proper department, and turned in to the PLM III office for filing and billing purposes
Other tasks include maintaining the fuel truck itself, keeping it stocked, full of fuel, and clean, and ensuring it is ready every day for 24-hour use in case of a weather or disaster event
An employee may be required to work late or be called in during such an event
Performs other related duties/tasks as assigned

Required

The equivalent of a high school diploma
A minimum of at least three (3) years of direct work experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance
A valid Class B CDL with a valid HAZMAT and Tanker endorsement is required at the time of hire
Employee shall furnish all hand tools needed to perform the duties of an Equipment Mechanic
This position is deemed essential during inclement weather situations and must report to or remain at work, even when administrative closings are announced, as determined by the Department Head
Prior to operating a County-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level
Knowledge of repair and service manuals and other documentation for maintenance of vehicles and various equipment
Knowledge of Hamilton County work order system, County policies and procedures
Knowledge of Federal, State, and County codes and regulations relating to vehicle and workplace safety
Knowledge of County geography, facilities, and work sites
Skill in testing and diagnosing problems relating to vehicle and equipment operational performance
Skill in reading, interpreting, understanding, and applying applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, Hamilton County Policies and Procedures
Skill in working with a variety of tools and equipment; service manuals, vehicle, and equipment specifications
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, service/parts vendors, and other County departments
Skill effectively communicating in both oral and written form

Pension – Legacy Plan (hired prior to 10/1/2015), in which the employer contributes 14.70%.
Pension – Hybrid Plan (hired on or after 10/1/2015), in which the employee contributes 5% and the employer contributes 4%.
401K – Employer contributes 5% and the employee can contribute the amount of their choice.
