Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
East 57th Street Partners is a private equity firm focused on lower middle market investments. They are seeking an Interim Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the finance function during a critical period of integration and growth, focusing on financial transformation, M&A integration, and operational performance improvements.
Responsibilities
Assess the current state of accounting, FP&A, reporting, and controls across the platform and add-on businesses
Build and execute a finance transformation roadmap to support scalability, accuracy, and investor-grade reporting
Professionalize financial operations, including month-end close, consolidations, policies, and internal controls
Lead system and process improvements across ERP, reporting tools, and financial workflows
Support financial diligence and integration planning for pending and future acquisitions
Lead post-close financial integration, including chart of accounts alignment, reporting standardization, and policy harmonization
Develop and implement integration playbooks for accounting, FP&A, treasury, and financial systems
Ensure timely consolidation and visibility into performance across all entities
Establish a robust FP&A function, including budgeting, forecasting, and KPI reporting
Build cash flow forecasting and working capital visibility to support operational decision-making
Develop board-quality reporting packages that provide clear insights into performance, trends, and risks
Partner with business leaders to improve margins, cost structure, and operational efficiency
Strengthen cash management processes, including daily visibility, controls, and forecasting
Support lender relationships, reporting requirements, and covenant compliance
Optimize working capital and identify opportunities to improve cash flow
Establish appropriate internal controls, documentation, and financial governance for a growing multi-entity environment
Oversee audit readiness, technical accounting matters, and external reporting requirements
Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
Evaluate current finance team structure, capabilities, and gaps
Recruit, mentor, and develop accounting and FP&A talent as needed
Define roles, responsibilities, and scalable processes to support continued growth and acquisition activity
Serve as a key member of the leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO and private equity operating partners
Translate financial data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making
Provide regular, transparent communication to investors regarding performance, integration progress, and risks
Qualification
Required
12+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility as a CFO or divisional finance leader
Proven experience leading finance transformation in high-growth or change-intensive environments
Strong track record of M&A integration, including post-close consolidation and process alignment
Experience building or scaling finance functions in multi-entity organizations
Deep expertise in FP&A, cash flow management, and operational finance
Experience in private equity–backed companies strongly preferred
Comfortable operating in hands-on, resource-constrained environments typical of lower middle market businesses
Willing and able to travel up to 50%
