Property & Evidence Custodian

The Village of Tinley Park is a vibrant community located in southwest suburban Chicago, seeking to fill the position of Property & Evidence Custodian within the Police Department. This role is responsible for overseeing the security and integrity of evidence rooms, preparing evidence for court, and maintaining accurate records to ensure the chain of custody of all property and evidence.

Responsibilities

Overseeing security and integrity of evidence rooms
Receiving organizing, preserving, securing, and preparing evidence for various lab
Handle evidence & property accordingly to established procedures
Determine appropriate and lawful disposition of property
Keeping accurate records to maintain integrity and chain of custody of all property and evidence
Preparing evidence for court proceedings
Testifying in court when subpoenaed
Responding to information request from other departments and the public regarding receipt and return of evidence property and case dispositions
Ensuring proper retention of records

Required

An Associate's degree is preferred along with a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of related experience with records management, evidence handling, customer service, and/or data processing is required
Law enforcement experience is highly preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required
Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS) with less than full access certified or must successfully complete within six months of hire
A valid Driver's License is required
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to multi-task, and be familiar with police evidence and lawful procedural requirements
They must have demonstrated highest level of integrity, responsibility and reliability
Must be proficient in MicroSoft Office and able to navigate various computer systems all while being extremely organized and efficient in the handling of time sensitive tasks
They must be able to deal with highly sensitive information maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
