Responsibilities
Play a pivotal role in the implementation and coordination of grant-funded disaster recovery programs for both state- and federally declared disasters statewide
Participate in and, as assigned, lead disaster response and recovery field operations
Support the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and manage emergency communications and requests for assistance from local communities, partner agencies, and governmental entities
Deploy to communities across the state to help coordinate the state’s response efforts and support state and local disaster response, recovery, and preparedness plans
Qualification
Required
One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events
Service as an Emergency Management Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere
Two years of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events
A bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college
One year of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events
A valid Alaska driver's license is required
Some positions require the incumbent to obtain a federal security clearance
Work may require periodic, 24-hour on-call duty and travel to remote locations in small aircraft and boats, and may involve exposure to inherently hazardous or potentially dangerous environmental conditions
Must be willing and able to travel within the State, including very remote areas, or out of State as needed
Transportation can be via government vehicle, commercial airlines (large and small), very small planes, helicopters, boats, snow machines, and ATVs to remote areas of the state to support the Department's mission
Attendance is an essential function of the job
