Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I

Responsibilities
Overhauls and repairs equipment and machinery
Performs electrical and mechanical repairs on plumbing, pneumatic, HVAC, and hydraulic equipment, changing oil, greasing, checking bolts, screws, valves, and cleaning as necessary
Installs and maintains new equipment and wires units according to electrical codes and schematics and diagrams provided; troubleshoots and makes repairs to all existing equipment
Evaluates mechanical problems and performs diagnostic tests
Repairs or replaces as needed
Maintains operation of remote alarm system
Responsible for maintaining a record of equipment repair and maintenance using City Work software
Evaluates equipment for electrical problems, and performs light wiring repairs or replacements, as required
Performs preventative maintenance of equipment and machinery, as necessary
Communicates with Assistant Maintenance Superintendent any parts, equipment, and tools required to perform assigned tasks
Conducts inspections and reports observations to Assistant Maintenance Superintendent
Maintains a safe work environment for self and others; reports any needs/issues with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Assistant Maintenance Superintendent
Stops work as needed to maintain safety
Mows grass and weeds, removes trees and brush, and performs other related grounds keeping duties of a seasonal nature, including snow and ice removal
Assists with training new employees, as required
Assists other units, as needed. Performs related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Minimum experience equal to one year in water/wastewater treatment or related occupation
Ability to read and understand blueprints, mechanical and electrical
Physical requirements for respiratory equipment and SCBA
Must possess OSHA Respirator Physical annually, as required
Knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures, including lock-out tag out, fall protection, and confined space entry procedures
Ability to legally drive and operate a variety of vehicles
Preferred
Experience with 480-volt electric service and control panels
Experience diagnosing electrical and mechanical failures
Commercial Driver License (CDL B or A)
