Senior Quality Engineer
Wag'n Tails Mobile Conversions is a leading manufacturer of mobile grooming and veterinary vehicles, and they are seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to ensure the highest quality standards in their products. This role involves owning the Quality Management System, leading quality initiatives, and driving continuous improvement across engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain.
Responsibilities
Maintain a scalable QMS that supports Wag’n Tails’ growth and product expansion
Create and improve procedures, standards, and documentation to ensure consistent, repeatable product quality
Oversee audits, document control, corrective action systems, and continuous improvement projects
Build dashboards and metrics to monitor quality performance, including scrap, rework, supplier performance, warranty cost, and process capability
Analyze production and field data to identify trends, drive root-cause elimination, and prioritize improvement initiatives
Lead efforts to reduce the Total Cost of Quality through prevention-focused strategies and cross-functional alignment
Oversee and refine incoming material inspections, in-process audits, and final vehicle inspections
Develop inspection criteria, sampling plans, testing protocols, and quality records
Collaborate with engineering to ensure drawings, specifications, and change notices support manufacturability and inspection clarity
Lead structured root-cause investigations using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, and fault-tree analysis
Implement and verify effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Lead containment activities on the production floor to prevent escape of defects to customers
Partner with Customer Care to support field issues and use data to support corrective actions
Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance product quality, reduce variation, and improve efficiency
Identify design improvement opportunities to improve field quality and reduce cost
Lead or participate in CI projects aligned with Lean, Six Sigma, and QMS objectives
Partner with production, engineering, and service teams to create sustainable improvements and standard work
Participate in new product development (NPD), electrical updates, system redesigns, and feature changes to ensure quality is built in at the design stage
Review engineering changes (ECNs/ECOs) for quality impact, manufacturability, inspection clarity, and risk
Develop control plans, PFMEAs, and inspection standards aligned with new or updated designs
Support prototype builds, pilot units, and production validation activities with hands-on testing and documentation
Ensure quality requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria are fully defined and communicated in project timelines
Serve as the quality representative in cross-functional project meetings, providing risk assessments and mitigation strategies
Support readiness reviews prior to launch (engineering, supply chain, training, inspection readiness, documentation)
Evaluate supplier capability and readiness for new components or assemblies used in project launches
Evaluate supplier performance, including incoming quality, responsiveness, and corrective action effectiveness
Lead supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and support new supplier qualification efforts
Collaborate with supply chain on vendor selection, capability assessments, and risk mitigation
Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, audit findings, nonconformance reports, and CAPA, PDSA, A3, or similar documentation
Ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry/regulatory standards (ISO 9001, RVIA, electrical codes)
Support preparation of reports and quality summaries for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field
3–7 years of experience in quality engineering, manufacturing quality, or automotive/RV/upfitter environment
Demonstrated experience with QMS development, root-cause analysis, inspections, and CI methodologies
Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, and test results
Experience using quality tools such as control plans, PFMEA, SPC, MSA, CAPA, and audit methods
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive alignment in a fast-paced build environment
Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and cross-functional
Preferred
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
Experience with Lean Manufacturing and structured problem-solving frameworks
Experience with supplier quality and external audits
Familiarity with ISO 9001 or specialty vehicle industry standards
