Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will support accurate accounting operations and financial reporting for Valvoline’s consolidated entities, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls while collaborating across functions to maintain financial data integrity.

Responsibilities
Perform journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for month-end and quarter-end close processes
Analyze variances and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness
Assist with the consolidation of global entities and preparation of financial reports
Prepare internal financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation
Prepare quarterly and annual stand-alone financials for review and audit
Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, company policies, and internal controls
Support internal and external audit requests and implement recommendations
Research specific uncertain accounting issues and document Valvoline’s considerations and accounting treatment conclusion
Manage internal accounting policies and provide supporting documentation
Applies a strong foundation in accounting principles to ensure accurate and compliant reporting
Maintain documentation and execution of key SOX/ICFR controls
Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to automation initiatives
Support system enhancements and financial tools implementation
Collaborate with commercial finance, supply chain, and other teams to ensure proper accounting treatment
Assist in accounting for intercompany transactions, joint ventures, and new business initiatives
Act as a resource for junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices
Support the Accounting Manager in special projects and ad hoc analyses
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
3–6 years of relevant accounting experience in corporate or public accounting
Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles
Experience with ERP systems and financial close tools (e.g., Blackline)
Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting platforms
Self-motivated with a collaborative and solution-oriented approach
Ability to work a hybrid schedule with approximately 3 days/week in the Lexington office
Preferred
CPA certification preferred or actively pursuing
Experience working with the ERP system SAP/S4 is preferred
