Responsibilities

Work collaboratively as the team leader with clinic teams to deliver comprehensive patient care
Care for a panel of patients with the UT Southwestern residents in a team-based environment that offers integrated in-clinic primary care, clinical pharmacy, and rehabilitative therapy services
Provide a full range of consultative services on site, from patient wellness programs to advanced medical and surgical specialties
Engage in opportunities for academic engagement including teaching and clinical precepting for medical students and internal medicine residents
Serve as teaching attendings on inpatient medicine wards for 1-2 weeks at a time and precept residents in the Primary Care Continuity Clinic

Required

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment
Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
Subject to background/security investigation
Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
Must pass pre-employment physical examination
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)

Preferred

Board Certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine or its equivalent
Candidate must perform patient consultations, diagnosing and treatment of a diverse population. The provider must have strong clinical skills, including the ability to perform comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage complex medical conditions
Excellent communication skills, e.g., the ability to explain medical conditions and treatment options clearly to diverse patient populations and their families
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
Expertise and experience in teaching
Expertise and experience in research
Knowledge of general and VA computer software programs, including CPRS, Provation
Eligible for UTSW faculty appointment
