Responsibilities
Provides roadway and bridge construction oversite
Receives and maintains volume and weight ticket records on construction sites
Collects and transports material samples from construction site to materials lab
Performs construction material testing tasks under supervision of a certified technician
Prepares clear, complete and accurate plans and detailed drawings for construction projects
Prepares and maintains maps and drawings
Answers questions for the general public regarding maps and construction plans
Assist with field traffic studies including gathering, summarizing, tabulating and analyzing traffic data
Assists with permits and transportation programs
Performs related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position
Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years
Individuals will be required to complete a pre-employment and any potential post-accident drug test as these positions are deemed safety sensitive
Regardless of Minnesota statute, marijuana and other drugs will disqualify individuals from initial and continued employment
Enrolled in an Engineering degree program or closely related field
Understanding of the principles and practices used in the civil engineering field and focused on the transportation system
Desired candidates should have a strong math and/or science educational background
Working knowledge of the principles and practices used in engineering
Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations
Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
Ability to communicate with staff and public
Ability to work independently and as a team
Ability to perform manual labor in sometimes difficult weather conditions
Ability to drive and operate an automobile (car/truck)
Ability to read and interpret construction plans
Ability to use various hand tools
Ability to operate a calculator and computer
