Highway Technician Assistant I

The Commonwealth of Kentucky's Transportation Cabinet is dedicated to providing a safe and efficient transportation system. As a Highway Technician Assistant I, you will be involved in road and construction maintenance, operating equipment, and ensuring traffic safety.

Responsibilities

Operating single axle dump trucks
During summer months you will be using jackhammers and other tools to patch potholes in bridge decks
Forming, pouring, and finishing concrete in various applications
Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months in Scott County
Flag for operations requiring traffic control

Required

High school graduate
Must be 18 years of age
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification
Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license
Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification

Preferred

Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates
Experience working with strict deadlines
Experience completing shift or on-call schedules
Experience in snow and ice plowing skills
Experience in equipment operations and bridge repairs
