Mechanical Engineering Intern
Airbuild Inc is pioneering deployable infrastructure focused on environmental sustainability, and they are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the design and field deployment of their Pods. The intern will work on improving mechanical reliability, manufacturability, and performance while assisting with various engineering tasks and documentation.

Responsibilities
Assist in the mechanical design and CAD modeling of algae reactors, tanks, enclosures, and support structures
Support fluid system design , including piping layouts, pumps, valves, and flow control components
Perform basic engineering calculations (flow rates, pressure drops, structural loads, material responses) for evaluation of stability, thermal performance
Help design scalable, modular versions of the Pods for future deployments
Conduct bench-scale and field testing , collect data, and assist with performance analysis
Support manufacturability and assembly planning for scalable system designs
Assist with documentation , including drawings, BOMs, test reports, and design iterations
Support integration of sensors, filtration, solar, and biochar systems into the mechanical subsystems
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar)
Basic understanding of fluid mechanics and mechanical design principles
Comfortable working in a hands-on, experimental environment
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced startup setting
Excited about climate infrastructure, water systems, or sustainable design
Preferred
Familiarity with P&ID schematics, filtration technologies, or solar mounting
Exposure to environmental engineering, wastewater treatment, or bioreactors
Basic FEA or CFD experience and Experience with fluid systems, piping, pumps, or tanks
Prior work in field engineering, containerized systems, or civil infrastructure
Interest in startup environments or mission-driven hardware
Being based near Utah is a plus, and possibly open to hybrid contributions
