Painting Tech II
Liberty University is seeking a Painting Technician II to maintain and protect interior and exterior surfaces throughout the campus. The role involves skilled painting tasks, operating specialized equipment, and assisting in training lower-level technicians while ensuring high-quality finishes.

Responsibilities
Reports to work on time and perform duties as assigned by the Painting Supervisor or Lead
Work 1st or 2nd shift and participate in โAvailable to Workโ rotation for emergency or after-hours maintenance
Report promptly and perform duties as assigned by the Painting Supervisor or Lead Technician
Independently prepare surfaces for painting, including advanced sanding, stripping, patching, and texturing of walls and ceilings
Apply paints, varnishes, stains, and specialty coatings to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment
Operate and maintain paint sprayers and related specialized equipment following safety and manufacturer guidelines
Assist in matching paint colors, mixing coatings, and determining appropriate products based on surface and environmental conditions
Perform minor project planning and coordination, including estimating materials and communicating needs to supervisors
Inspect surfaces and finished work for quality assurance, identifying defects and ensuring compliance with standards
Assist in training and mentoring Painting Technician I staff
Assist with inventory control and material handling to maintain adequate supplies and equipment readiness
Complete and document work orders accurately and timely
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress and issues
Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Painting craft including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/masks, reflective safety vests, knee pads, coveralls, shoe covers, and fire extinguisher. As well as, responsible for having fall arrest anchors, wearing a harness with lanyards and retractables and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs
Stay updated on emerging painting technologies, products, and best practices in the industry
Perform other duties as assigned
As Essential Personnel, you must be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies, including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise

Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2+ years of painting experience, preferably in commercial, institutional, or similar settings
Ability to work independently and as part of a team and be able to exercise sound judgment
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and emergencies
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information
Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner
Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University
Ability to interpret work orders, safety guidelines, and technical instructions
Ability to mentor and support less experienced staff
Strong organizational skills
Required to travel to local on and off-campus locations
May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard
Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally
Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus
Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business
Ability to regularly lift and carry materials up to 50+ pounds
Proof of a valid driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee's position
Preferred
Experience operating paint spraying equipment is preferred
Willingness to obtain or maintain aerial lift certification
Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) preferred
