Transport Maint Crew Chief
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transport Maint Crew Chief to lead a crew of technicians and operators in transportation maintenance activities. The role involves responding to emergencies, overseeing maintenance operations, and ensuring the efficient use of materials and equipment.

Responsibilities
Assists during accident and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews
Assists in administration of the maintenance section
Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments
Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors
Maintains records on materials and equipment used and employee time sheets
Monitors materials testing and inventory of roadway maintenance materials
Operates light and heavy equipment
Oversees the work of designated maintenance inspectors and sign technicians
Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment
Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Grad or Equivalent in general education
5 years experience in roadway maintenance related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application
Must have or have obtained 'N' (tanker) endorsement and remove any transmission restriction within 60 calendar days from date of employment
Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Incident management procedures
Inventory/stock control procedures
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Operating light and heavy highway equipment
Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment
Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour
Subject to noise and vibration
Subject to hazards - moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places, heat, and chemicals
Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other device
Medium Work: Left up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
Standing - prolonged periods of time
Lifting - raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position
Visual Acuity - operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills
Visual Acuity - operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions
Required to work during emergency situations after hours, on weekends or holidays
Required to work hour other than 8 to 5
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions
Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours
Must be able to report for duty within 60 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations
