Responsibilities

Leading the planning, organization, and delivery of agency training
Overseeing the development of curricula by lower level staff
Supervising lower level training specialists, paraprofessional and support staff
Developing new training initiatives and modifying existing programs based on assessment of program needs
Evaluating training
Acting as the organization’s consultant to internal and external programs

Required

7 years of professional experience developing and delivering major segments of institution and community training programs to improve the knowledge and abilities of those caring for and treating individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities in institutional and community settings
An associate's degree can substitute for 2 years of experience
A bachelor's degree can substitute for 4 years of experience
A Master's degree can substitute for 5 years of experience
A doctorate degree in a related field may substitute for 6 years of experience
Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on a current Training Specialist 2 Mental Hygiene eligible list
Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position's minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met
The promotion field for the Training Specialist 2 Mental Hygiene position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as an Training Specialist 1 Mental Hygiene
