Internship Coordinator - BHSLCS - Alternative High School
Brooklyn Community Services is one of Brooklyn’s first and largest non-sectarian social services agencies, dedicated to serving over 10,000 individuals annually. The Internship Coordinator will develop and oversee work readiness and internship programs for high school students, providing support and resources to help them achieve their academic and career goals.

Responsibilities
Develop and oversee the implementation of the work readiness and internship programs at l BHSLCS
Maintain a caseload of 20+ participants, supporting their academic, career, and personal goals through individual and group sessions
Collaborate with advocate counselors and directors to ensure comprehensive student support
Recruit students to participate in LTW internship opportunities and monitor their progress to promote retention and success
Assist interested students with completing the required documentation to enroll into the internship program
Facilitate orientation workshops for students interested in participating in the internship programs
Develop and cultivate internship and job opportunities in the community through outreach calls and visits to employers, aligning opportunities with students’ skills, maturity levels, and experience
Provide individualized job and career counseling to support students’ professional growth
Conduct daily attendance outreach to ensure student engagement
Monitor and track the attendance, academic and employment progress of assigned participants; initiate outreach to absent students via phone calls
Conduct weekly seminars throughout the school year focusing on career and work readiness skills for all Internship program participants aligned with CDOS requirements
Prepare and deliver job readiness curriculum, including résumé/cover letter development, interview skills, and job search strategies
Provide individualized job and career counseling, including continuous feedback and resources tailored to student needs
Monitor student academic performance and deliver timely support and interventions to promote achievement
Collaborate with teachers to identify student needs and implement individualized support plans
Document all student interactions in Apricot and Kinvolve, ensuring accurate and timely data entry
Enter and maintain all required student information in BCS’s internal database system (Apricot)
Maintain accurate and confidential student records
Provide immediate crisis intervention support as needed, including mediation support to address urgent student needs and ensure appropriate follow-up
Monitor student behavior in hallways to maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly school environment, and support teachers in addressing and resolving student conflicts as needed
Develop and maintain a career plan for each student based on assessments and goals, updating plans at least every three months to reflect progress and changing needs
Organize and facilitate relevant Career and Job Readiness workshops, panels and fairs such as CareerWeek, Job Fairs, and College and Workforce trips to expose students to various career paths
Manage Google Classroom and ensure internship positions are clearly described in job description format and are posted when a position becomes available
Visit internship sites monthly and meet with supervisors bi-weekly to assess intern progress, growth and professional development
Maintain regular contact with employers to assess needs, resolve issues, and foster internship partner relationships
Meet the minimum internship enrollment target by February 1 annually
Ensure the program establishes 3–5 new internship sites annually and maintains all required partnership contracts
Participate in staff, team, and DOE meetings as needed
Appropriately manage and participate in communication, collaborations and partnership with DOE, school leadership, and other stakeholders
Serve as an active member of both Brooklyn Community Services and school-based teams
Respond to emails and text messages in a timely and professional manner to ensure effective communication with students, families, staff, and partners
Participate in monthly professional development and training sessions to maintain and strengthen program knowledge, skills, and compliance
Participate in school events, weekly attendance action meetings, and agency-wide initiatives to promote a cohesive support network
Support program activities such as planning and attending trips, celebrations, and leadership development events
Accompany participants on day and overnight trips to locations within and outside New York State, ensuring safety, engagement, and program compliance
Communicate and coordinate effectively with BCS team members, including the Program Director, Assistant Program Director and Advocate Counselor peers. Participate in weekly supervision meetings with the Program Director.Oversee performance evaluation for all interns
Document all work and keep case records on all students on caseload as required
Complete PAF for all students that are enrolled or program separation
Submit intern timesheets bi-weekly Manage timely submission of bi-weekly internship payroll via Dayforce
Complete a monthly Learning to Work Report for data collection purposes
Work closely with school and counseling team personnel as a member of the interdisciplinary team to best meet the holistic needs of the student
Participate in program development and execution of all workforce development services
Communicate with Alumni and share resources that can connect them to job opportunities
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required, MSW preferred
Professionalism and ability to work as a team
Familiarity with New York City Department of Education systems required
Experience and demonstrated skill in working with youth and families required
Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to advocate effectively
Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, and attend retreats
Proficiency in Google Drive, including creating, organizing, and sharing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
Preferred
Experience in transfer schools or alternative educational settings preferred
