They are seeking a Director of Materials Engineering to lead engineering teams and drive functional performance in the development of high power laser components for semiconductor lasers and other solid state EPI laser products.

Responsibilities
Manage customer project-driven laser systems and components
Direct (manage, mentor, train, review) staff and their engineering development teams
Support staffing of customer project teams and project managers
Maintain design standards, facilities (labs and work stations), design tools (software/hardware), and operating procedures for the Engineering function
Support the engineering managers in managing and planning engineering department spending
Nurture global intracompany technology partnerships and collaborative product innovation by direct interactions with customers
Contribute to product designs as a senior technologist
Manage global customer project teams when needed
Qualification
Required
Doctorate Degree
High ethical standards when handling confidential matters
Ability to understand business goals and translate into actions
Effective in cross-functional global integration
Experience in technology development, product development, and business development
Ability to influence others using goals, training, standards/rules, recognition, coaching, assistance, initiative, self-control, honesty, and priority setting
Capability of delegating and optimizing efficiency while maintaining personal control
Recognize performance strengths and limitations of subordinates
Effectively coach and mentor subordinates
Build efficient and globally located cross functional teams
Mentor direct reports
Competency with laser components including NLO crystals, GaAs and other III-V materials
Proven leadership experience in crystal and non-crystalline laser components, nonlinear optics, GaAs and other III-V materials
Significant experience with fast paced project management and product development teams
Expert knowledge of mechanical, electrical, optical, and/or software engineering
Working knowledge of project management software tools (MS Project and Sharepoint) and PDM systems
Management and design leadership experience in new product development
Proven examples of innovation
15+ years of relevant leadership experience
5 years of directly related materials experience
7+ years diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization and people motivation skills
Preferred
PhD in physics and/or material science
