Transmission Planning Engineer
Coalesce Management Consulting is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to support the analysis, planning, and development of high-voltage transmission systems serving the New York City region. This role focuses on ensuring system reliability, compliance with NYISO/NERC standards, and supporting long-term grid expansion to accommodate load growth, renewable integration, and electrification initiatives.

Responsibilities
Perform transmission system planning studies including power flow, contingency analysis, short-circuit, and stability studies
Develop and evaluate transmission solutions to address reliability criteria violations and forecasted load growth
Support NYISO planning processes (Local Transmission Owner Planning Process, Reliability Needs Assessment, Comprehensive Reliability Plan)
Coordinate with internal engineering teams, operations, and external stakeholders including NYISO, utilities, consultants, and regulators
Prepare technical reports, planning documentation, and regulatory filings
Support interconnection studies for new generation, energy storage, and large load customers
Ensure compliance with NERC, NPCC, NYISO, and local utility standards
Provide technical input for capital project justification and long-term transmission expansion plans
Review and validate consultant studies and engineering analyses
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred)
3–8+ years of experience in transmission planning or power system analysis
Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as PSS®E, TARA, PowerWorld, PSCAD, or similar
Strong understanding of AC power flow, system reliability criteria, and transmission design concepts
Familiarity with NYISO market and planning processes
Excellent analytical, communication, and technical writing skills
