Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises operations and maintenance activities of the street division
Schedules daily activities and assigns personnel
Evaluates field problems and develops solutions to accomplish efficient completion of assigned task
Serves as a member of the department managers team and a liaison between other departments and outside agencies. Schedules material and equipment for major projects and coordinates purchase of material for inventory and projects
Provides input on personnel issues, including hiring and discipline
Advises supervisors and other City officials in matters relating to department activities
Reviews and approves leave requests, overtime and compensatory time
Develops and promotes adherence to appropriate safety rules, regulations and practices
Administers employee performance evaluations
Orders materials and supplies for projects; maintains department inventories
Assists in analyzing annual operating costs and makes recommendations for department budget
Assists in developing and implementing long range street city improvement projects
Monitors contracts, oversees contractors work and invoices, and assists contractors by developing solutions to problems
Performs related work as required
Qualification
Required
High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
At least three (3) to five (5) years of experience with asphalt paving; operating heavy equipment; concrete finishing; concrete mixer driving; formulas for asphalt, concrete, and materials needed for job assignments; and experience supervising or leading other employees
