Police Communications Officer

Responsibilities

Successful completion of the 16 week Communications Officer Training Program, which includes Texas Penal Code, Traffic Code, the use of telecommunications equipment, and the use of a Computer Aided Dispatch system
Familiarization with the University and Departmental policies, and TLETS/NLETS and TCIC/NCIC operations and policies
Operates data terminals for the National Crime Information Center and Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems for the University Police Department
Receives incoming telephone calls from the general public, disseminates information for emergency personnel, and monitors telecommunications equipment
Familiarization with the geography of Texas A&M University (i.e. buildings, streets, major departments and University Personnel)
Monitors and responds to activation of alarm systems by coordinating with all appropriate agencies and personnel and performs other duties as assigned

Required

You must be already certified or able to obtain a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Telecommunicators License
You may be required to work weekends, holidays and hours other than Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm
You must be able to type a minimum of 45 word per minute
Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
Requires High school diploma or GED
Requires two years of full-time employment experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must be able to obtain the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Telecommunicators certification
Requires High school diploma or GED
Requires one year of full-time employment experience as a Texas A&M University Police Department Communications Officer or equivalent law enforcement dispatch experience
Must possess the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Telecommunicators certification
Requires High school diploma or GED
Requires two years of experience as a Texas A&M University Police Department Communications Officer or equivalent law enforcement dispatch experience
Must possess the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Telecommunicators certification
Requires High school diploma or GED
Requires three years of experience as a Texas A&M University Police Department Communications Officer or equivalent law enforcement dispatch experience
Must possess the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Intermediate Telecommunicator certification

Requires four years' experience as a Texas A&M University Police Department Communications Officer or equivalent law enforcement dispatch experience
Must possess the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Advanced Telecommunicators certification
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Public relations skills
Keyboarding skills
Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, drug screen, and complete background investigation to include, but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history
Flexibility to work rotating shifts and holidays
Ability to work under stress
Ability to comprehend technical aspects of communications equipment
Applicants must pass a typing test with a score of 45 words per minute
Applicants must also pass a Critical Multitasking Dispatch Test

Bachelor's degree
Previous experience as a dispatcher in law enforcement
