Engineering Safety Coordinator
Texas A&M University is seeking an Engineering Safety Coordinator to maintain a safe and compliant research environment. This role involves conducting laboratory safety checks, addressing deficiencies, and implementing corrective actions while promoting research safety protocols and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities
Conduct regular laboratory walkthroughs, document findings, assign risk ratings, and coordinate the timely resolution of identified safety issues in partnership with EHS, lab leaders, and Engineering Operations to ensure compliance
Ensure all safety equipment is properly certified, including fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, gas detection devices, and emergency eyewash/showers, and verify that safety signage is up-to-date
Advise principal investigators and lab users on safety and compliance issues, providing resources and recommendations for improved practices
Coordinate the compliant collection, labeling, and storage of chemicals and hazardous waste
Identify high-hazard research equipment including pressure systems and ensure alignment with codes and standards
Promote and track Project Safety Analyses (PSAs), assist labs with hazard identification, development of SOPs, and alignment of training
Support lab setup, relocation, and decommissioning, particularly regarding critical safety controls (ventilation, detection systems, safeguards)
Contribute to Engineering Safety Council meetings, safety forums, and Engineering emergency planning initiatives
Track and analyze trends in incidents, near misses, and deficiencies; support incident reviews, capture lessons learned, and drive corrective and preventive actions
Provide professional support and backup for Engineering Operations, including occasional travel to the RELLIS campus
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Six years of experience in an environmental health and safety field or related
Knowledge of environmental safety and health rules, regulations, and standards
Knowledge of EPA environmental and hazardous waste regulations
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system
This position is security sensitive
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
Preferred
Ten or more years in an Environmental Health and safety field
Graduate degree in EHS or Engineering related field
CSP, CIH, CHMM certifications preferred
