Responsibilities
Conduct citywide mosquito control to support public health and recreation
Perform general pest control using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for pests like mosquitoes, flies, rats, snakes, and wasps
Apply herbicides to control vegetation and reduce rodent harborage; assist with drainage maintenance, especially during rain/flood events
Maintain reliable, punctual attendance and complete other related duties as needed
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or successful completion of GED
Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category # 60 (Registered Technician)
Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category #8 (Public Health) or obtain one within 180 days of employment
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion
Must be able to make routine decisions independently
The incumbent may be considered 'essential personnel' during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules
