Sr. Electrical AutoCAD Designer
Impact Staffing International is seeking a Sr. Electrical AutoCAD Designer to perform routine design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic design techniques and procedures, under limited supervision. The role involves developing AutoCAD electrical standard drawings, collaborating with electrical engineers, and managing multiple design projects to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Responsibilities
The position will entail developing AutoCAD electrical standard drawings for control panel layouts, assembly, BOM, IO wiring diagrams and would include Database & Catalog Management and customization per ICS standards. It is also expected that the drafting engineer has the competence to complete any electrical connections to components within the drawing package
Develop and maintain electrical design templates and libraries. Ensure all drawings and designs comply with relevant codes and standards
Electrical Design – Collaborate with electrical engineers to develop electrical system designs. Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and other data to create detailed designs. Assist in the selection of electrical components and materials
Project Coordination – Manage and prioritize multiple design projects to meet deadlines. Work closely with project managers and engineers to understand project requirements and objectives. Prepare and review design documentation, ensuring completeness and accuracy
Quality Control – Conduct thorough reviews and revisions of drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness. Implement best practices in CAD design and documentation. Participate in design review meetings and provide constructive feedback. Edit drawings and incorporate changes from provided markups and/or verbal instructions
Collaboration – Coordinate with other designers and engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other disciplines. Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and clients as needed to clarify design requirements. Provide technical support and guidance to junior CAD designers
Drafting of control system architecture diagrams / network topology
Drafting of control system schematics, panel layouts and assembly diagrams
Produce MV/LV switchgear layouts & elevation drawings from a one-line electrical drawing
Create a Bill of Materials, including manufacturer part numbers, quantities, footage, etc. for PDC buildings, MV & LV electrical equipment, and control systems
Create Electrical Area Classification plans and details
Route cables in cable tray systems using cable schedules, with minimum guidance
Calculate cable tray fill, with minimum guidance
Create tray routing plans
Understand Instrument Cable Block diagrams
Create Instrument Installation details using engineering data sheets, with minimum guidance
Perform field work as required to obtain accurate information and create sketches for the design of the project. Duration determined by the project requirements and project management
Produce conduit & Grounding drawings
Calculate cable lengths, conduit fill, or other basic tasks
Perform corrections to the following drawings: P&ID’s, Grounding Plan, Cable Routing Plans, Tray Plans, Wiring Diagrams, Schematics, Panel Layouts, E&I details, Building Layouts, and Loop Diagrams
Thorough understanding of power distribution to schematics and assembly diagrams
Oversee project-specific activities of drafters and more junior designers
Qualification
Required
At least 5 years of experience
Drafting, or a related field education
Knowledge of physical PDC Building layouts and control system drawing packages with electrical fundamentals
Develop AutoCAD electrical standard drawings for control panel layouts, assembly, BOM, IO wiring diagrams

Minimum associate's degree in drafting preferred
Strong knowledge of the major components of MV/LV electrical equipment located in PDC buildings including control system cabinets along with the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
Strong knowledge physical PDC Building layout, elevations, grounding, foundations, and conduit
General knowledge of control circuits and ground grid theory & design
Strong working knowledge of P&ID's, instrumentation wiring details, control loop preparation, location plans, control panel layout
Ability to communicate and understand work issued by various disciplines and others involved in project design
Eligible to work for any U.S. employer
Requires accredited drafting training and discipline training or have prior working experience
Must have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
Basic Knowledge of P&ID's
Basic knowledge of PLC and DCS systems
Basic knowledge of OSHA, NEMA, ISA & ANSI
Basic knowledge of Electrical Codes NEC and IEC
Travel out of town to our Tomball facility in north Houston for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments if required
Effective communication skills both verbal and written, both 1-1 and group situations
5 years or more experience working in an engineering environment
Knowledge of industrial control systems
Control Panel design experience
Strong team working skills and creative problem-solving skills
A high level of attention to detail
Adaptable to change, able to switch between different control systems designs on different projects
Familiar with Rockwell ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Point IO and Flex IO systems
Microsoft office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred
Minimum associate's degree in drafting preferred
Previous experience working in an industrial plant or facility is preferred
Certification in CAD software (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional) - Preferred
