Responsibilities
All groups will be greeted and addressed before they reach the first tee
It will be the duty of the first tee to ensure appropriate spacing of groups on the course, by waiting to start groups until prior groups are walking onto the first green
The First Tee Starter is an extension of the Golf Operations and needs to function with the same sense of urgency. Prompt service and quick reaction to special requests are the standard
Before the first shot is hit by a group on the first tee, the staff member at this station will supply the group with pertinent information regarding the day’s play, including maintenance matters, cart restrictions, exit posts, rakes inside the bunkers, weather information, upcoming events, comfort station information, PACE GPS basics, etc
The First Tee will be responsible for verifying proper first tee setup (tees, pencils, ball markers, divot repair tools, scorecards, yardage books, hole location sheet, sunscreen, bug spray, etc) and coordinating starting times of all groups for the day and ensuring proper spacing
The Player Assistant will make a goal to see every group once on the front nine and once on the back nine
Throughout the day the position will be responsible for ensuring smooth pace and proper spacing of the groups
The Player Assistant will always keep amenities in his/her cart to provide service as they make their laps around the course
It is important to remember that the job of the Player Assistant is not just to ride around in the cart. They should also take time to get out of the cart and attend the flagstick for players; greet players, rake bunkers, etc
The Player Assistant will also communicate with the Starter position to take a proactive approach to possible problem groups. This will help alleviate pace issues before they start
While driving around the golf course make sure to place all rakes in bunkers (with the rake end inside the bunker and handle outside), pick up all trash and debris, and pick up broken tees off of par 3’s and check sand levels on the tee box
The Player Assistant should take excess trash out of player’s carts, take dry towels to players when it is raining, and offer added services and take advantage of any other opportunities to create lasting memories
