Transmission Standards Engineer
Trident Consulting is seeking a Transmission Standards Engineer for one of our clients, a global leader in business and technology services. The role focuses on transmission engineering standards, technology integration, and regulatory compliance, requiring an experienced utility engineer to manage the lifecycle of standards and support enterprise rollout of new technologies.
Responsibilities
Develop, revise, and publish transmission engineering standards, design criteria, and construction standards
Own and manage the full lifecycle of standards governance, including updates, reviews, approvals, and publication
Lead alignment and gain buy-in from 10–15 internal stakeholders including transmission engineers, planners, operations, construction, and training teams
Support technology transfer, pilot programs, and enterprise deployment of new equipment and systems
Provide guidance on standards language, publishing approach, adoption strategy, and field implementation
Present standards changes, conduct Q&A sessions, and address feedback from operations and field teams
Ensure all standards comply with regulatory and legal requirements
Support training and knowledge transfer related to new and updated standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
8–15 years of experience in electric utility engineering
Must have direct experience in Transmission, Distribution, or Substation engineering standards
Owning, updating, defending, and governing engineering standards
Managing standards change processes end-to-end
Required exposure to regulated utility environments including CPUC General Orders (GO 95, GO 128 preferred)
NERC compliance concepts (direct or indirect)
Utility QA/QC processes, audits, and compliance-driven engineering updates
Leading or supporting pilot programs for new equipment, tools, or systems
Evaluating readiness for broader deployment
Coordinating with SMEs, Operations, Maintenance, and Training teams
Managing engineering change and adoption processes
AutoCAD (especially for substation and transmission standard drawings)
SPIDA (pole loading analysis)
Utility design tools (AUD / DM or similar)
SAP or Master Data systems (strong plus)
Deep transmission engineering expertise
Strong understanding of electrical circuit and transmission system design principles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate, influence, and socialize standards prior to publication
Strong judgment, risk assessment, and problem-ownership mindset
Comfortable working in ambiguous, evolving technical environments
Preferred
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred, not mandatory
Strong focus on Transmission engineering (preferred), with Distribution/Substation as related experience
