Laborer (Grounds)
The WG Bill Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center is seeking a Laborer (Grounds) to join their Engineering Service team. This role involves performing various general laborer duties to maintain the grounds and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Responsibilities
Performs various general laborer duties including loading and unloading trucks, loading dock areas, digging ditches, picking up trash, etc
Works with Gardner performing various duties that require operating specialized equipment to maintain grounds
Basic knowledge of routine maintenance procedures for all power equipment operated
Reviews safety precautions for proper operation of equipment according to manufacturer guidelines
Completes work after initial oral or written instructions are provided
Accomplishes recurring tasks from provided instructions for routine duties
Operates a Toro workman for general transportation of self and other laborers to and from various duty sites
Operates powered equipment including turf sweeper for leaf removal and ride-on powered vacuum
Uses backpack and push type blower to clean streets, sidewalks, and roof areas
Uses appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for specific jobs and equipment
Inspects and maintains hand and power tools on a daily basis to identify and correct potential safety hazards
Move/haul materials and equipment to work sites and back to storage or shop areas
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
Selective Services Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959

Experience: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations
A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities
