The practicum student will apply behavioral science principles to assist police personnel and their families, develop community-based resources, and participate in mental health workshops.

Responsibilities
Assist in the development process of the FLPD Co-Responder pilot program
Collaborate with FLPD’s grant specialists and City of Ft. Lauderdale HR section specialists
Shadow training of FLPD’s sworn personnel and supervisory psychologists
Assist with adjunctive responsibilities in the development and success of the program
Develop and provide a network of community-based referral resources including mental health services, financial counseling services, and after care substance usage/abuse programs
Attend and participate in mental health workshops and meetings as needed
Recommend resources within a researched behavioral health, referral service delivery system for FLPD personnel needs based on type of intervention and appropriateness of referral
Be available as a resource to the supervisory chain contingent upon a release of information and under supervisory approval
Qualification
Required
Students must complete a 5-day mandatory orientation before the start of the fall semester/practicum
Weekly supervision with a faculty member is required, along with intensive supervision as directed
Students are expected to work independently and develop therapeutic skills while supporting individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
Students must meet specific eligibility requirements and pair with full-time faculty lead practicum
