Bookkeeper/Accountant

Oawins Group is an insurance agency seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to support their financial operations. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing insurance-related transactions, and supporting day-to-day accounting functions.

Responsibilities

Record and maintain daily financial transactions, including premium receipts, commission income, and operating expenses
Reconcile bank accounts, trust/premium accounts, and credit card statements
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
Prepare and issue invoices to clients and carriers as needed
Track commissions, fees, and carrier payments
Assist with month-end and year-end closings
Maintain accurate general ledger entries
Prepare financial reports for management (e.g., profit & loss statements, balance sheets)
Support audits, carrier reconciliations, and compliance requirements
Coordinate with external accountants, payroll providers, and tax professionals
Ensure proper documentation and record retention in accordance with insurance regulations

Required

3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (insurance or financial services preferred)
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Applied, Epic, or similar agency management systems)
Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to handle confidential financial information
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred

Experience working in an insurance agency or brokerage
Familiarity with premium trust accounts and commission tracking
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
