Onsite Sewage Facility (OSSF) Summer Intern

Williamson County is seeking an Onsite Sewage Facility Summer Intern to perform engineering support duties including wastewater sampling and laboratory analysis. The intern will assist with the review and analysis of engineering plans and GIS database management under close supervision.

Responsibilities

Onsite Sewage Facility wastewater sampling of recreational vehicle parks under close supervision
Preparation of wastewater samples for BOD, TSS, TKN and NH3 analysis under close supervision
Transportation of sample to the laboratory and maintenance of chain of custody documents
Review of engineering plans under close supervision
Maintenance and updating of a GIS database under close supervision
ARC-GIS field data collection using GIS Collector App
MS4 Stormwater compliance inspections
Conducts management and quality assurance of database records under close supervision
Conducts records research under close supervision
Performs document archiving procedures and file management under close supervision
Assists in public information requests under close supervision
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Completed 30 semester hours of college courses. Must have 2 credit hours of laboratory sciences such as chemistry laboratory, physics laboratory or biology laboratory
Must be able to use Microsoft Word and Excel
Must be able to use an email system
Must be able to use a phone
Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's license
Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
Must be able to read and write English at the high school level
Must be able to communicate effectively with others
Must be able to interact with coworkers, supervisors, elected officials and the public in a professional manner
Must be able to adhere to Williamson County Policies

Preferred

College course work in water treatment, wastewater engineering, fluid mechanics, microbiology, public health, organic chemistry or environmental sciences
Prior experience (employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities) working within a team or organization
Prior experience (employment, extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities) completing a detailed task over several weeks
