Responsibilities
Perform overhaul and repair work on light and heavy-duty trucks, automobiles, off-road and related equipment
Perform routine preventative maintenance to include oil changes, tire replacement, belts, hoses, light bulbs, and brake pads while maintaining proper record keeping
Perform minor and major repairs replacing, inspecting, adjusting or replacing necessary units and related equipment parts, including engines, transmission, axles and hydraulic components
Repair minor body damage to vehicles and equipment including welding and fabricating
Utilize diagnostic equipment to diagnose and repair drivability and electrical concerns
Respond to roadside service calls for minor breakdowns or tire repairs in varying weather conditions
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be high school graduate or equivalent, preferably supplemented with a certificate of completion of an automotive or truck repair course from an accredited training facility, vocational or trade school
Must possess a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) OR be able to obtain the CDL within the first six (6) months following the appointment to this position, as well as meet City's standard of a good driving record
Must possess considerable knowledge of the methods, tools, materials, and techniques used in the repair of light and heavy-duty trucks, automotive, construction and fire equipment
Skilled in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work
Ability to lift up to 50lbs, stand for long periods, work in confined spaces or under vehicles using a creeper
Preferred
Knowledge of small gasoline engine repair is desirable; both two and four cycle
