Mid-Level Protection Engineer
WSP is a leading engineering company currently seeking a Mid-Level Protection Engineer for their Richmond, VA office. The role involves completing electrical studies and protective relay settings while maintaining client relationships and mentoring team members.

Responsibilities
Successful completion of assigned projects
Maintaining and improving client relationships
Technical competence in primary production roles
Working with clients and mentoring team members assigned to projects
Electrical studies and/or protective relay settings for utility and industrial/commercial clients
Analyzing systems including conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission and distribution systems
Participating in the proposal writing process
Interacting with a wide variety of people to obtain required information for performance of electrical distribution system studies
Leading and performing engineering tasks associated with critical or analytical engineering projects
Exercising authority and technical leadership on assignments
Tracking project scopes, schedules and budgets
Participating in industry working groups or standards (IEEE, CIGRE, IEC, ANSI)
Participating as a presenter in industry conferences
Learning/supporting other distribution disciplines such as Protection and Grid Modernization
Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct
Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), Computer Science (BSCS) or Computer Engineering (BSCE) graduate from an ABET accredited university
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity designing power transmission and distribution systems in utility or industrial/commercial environments
Engineer in Training Certification
Must be willing to travel on occasion
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles, including understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
Must have strong command of English language; experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others
Must be able to successfully pass client's background screening process
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Preferred
Registered Professional Engineers (PE) Licensure
Power Systems focused MSEE
A proven history of completing similar projects in a consulting environment
Experience in mentoring others and in providing technical and commercial leadership in customer focused engineering projects
Exposure to Electrical Power System Analysis using one of the following software packages – CYME, Milsoft, or Synergi
Two (2) + years of experience in the electrical power delivery industry
Experience with utility standards and overhead/underground distribution design
Experience with the integration of distributed generation within the planning process
