CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

The State of New Hampshire is seeking a Chief Accountant for the New Hampshire Veterans Home. This role involves planning and evaluating financial operations, analyzing revenue and expense accounts, and reporting accounting information while supervising the Business Office staff.

Responsibilities

Plans development and implementation of the Monthly Budgetary report for all departments within New Hampshire Veterans Home, up to and including, data queries, analyzing data for accuracy, transferring appropriations to the correct funding sources including updating the general ledger and preparing journal entries
Hires and evaluates the work performance of the Business Office staff and the Warehouse Manager
Supervises and trains Business Office and Warehouse staff on appropriate use of systems, procedures, policies, etc. Assigns and reviews work product to ensure timely payments and the accurate distribution of funds
Analyzes current workflow processes to identify and implement a variety of alternative solutions to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of operations
Assists in the preparation of contracts encumbrance requests and related reports for Governor and Council approval
Develops special financial reports and analyses used in the planning of capital and operating budgets. Plans and assists in the preparation of the biennium-operating budget to be forwarded to Bureau of Accounts, Fiscal committee and Governor's office
Prepares accurate month-end and year-end financial reports requested by the Business Administrator, Bureau of Accounts, and the Board of Managers. Assists the Business Administrator with any requests for yearly audit requests
Compiles reports necessary to validate financial transactions, budgetary transactions, and fiscal matters for use by Management

Required

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience OR equivalent combination of 6 years of education and experience after completion of high school
Education and experience to be in accounting, business administration or public administration including 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity with at least 2 years of supervisory directly concerned with accounting operations
