Responsibilities

Performs circulation activities by checking materials in and out, reserving material requests, registering new patrons, coordinating interlibrary loans and collecting fees
Provides customer service by providing assistance with computers and equipment, searching database for information and resources and recommending reading material
Performs administrative duties by preparing statistical reports, ordering supplies, opening mail, distributing library materials, replacing damaged materials, and preparing lost book forms
Assists with events by setting up displays and researching and preparing information about authors
Assists with the receiving and ordering of new library materials using the on-line computer program by entering and checking the received orders and assisting with the creation of selection lists and purchase orders
Depending upon area of assignment drives the Bookmobile or other library vehicles; prepares Bookmobile for service delivery including pulling and plugging in power cable and setting up the external awning, maintains vehicle cleanliness
Front line customer service at the public desk; assisting patrons with library inquiries concerning library and community services
Provides customer service in building as it relates to all customer needs and inquiries, directing patrons to a supervisor when needed
Understands verbal and written instructions and can communicate information and directions to patrons effectively via phone or in person
Assists patrons with computers, NPL’s catalog, NPL webpage resources, copy machines, fax and scanning devices
Provides resource retrieval and assistance for patrons as well as recommending materials based on patron needs
Assists with programs and events in the library and may be called upon for outreach efforts

Required

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency
One year of experience in library or related customer service work
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees
This position requires a proficient level of computer skills
This position requires the ability to work nights and weekends
This position requires ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time, lifts up to 25 pounds from ground to waist-level, bend, stoop, push, pull, and complete tasks requiring manual dexterity to retrieve books and other materials from shelves/cabinets ranging in height from floor level to approximately 6 feet, and unpack incoming books/orders
