Responsibilities
Maintain and reconcile inventory subledgers, ensuring accuracy of quantities, costs, and valuation
Perform monthly inventory rollforwards and investigate variances between systems and general ledger
Review standard costs and support annual or periodic cost updates
Analyze inventory transactions, including scrap, adjustments, write-offs, and intercompany transfers
Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) activity and ensure proper classification of expenses
Prepare journal entries and reconciliations related to inventory, COGS, and production variances
Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Analyze fluctuations and provide explanations for inventory and margin variances
Support budgeting and forecasting activities related to inventory and manufacturing costs
Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Warehouse teams to validate inventory transactions and resolve discrepancies
Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle count programs; Analyze results and recommend improvements
Provide insights on inventory accuracy issues and partner with cross-functional teams to address root causes
Ensure adherence to internal controls over inventory, costing, and financial reporting
Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and documentation
Identify opportunities to streamline and automate inventory accounting processes
Maintain and update inventory accounting policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years focused on inventory or cost accounting
Preferred
CPA or CMA
Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or similar industry
