Communications and Media Relations Coordinator
Chico State Enterprises is seeking a Communications and Media Relations Coordinator to develop and manage comprehensive communications strategies for their organizations. The role involves media outreach, content development, and collaboration with various teams to enhance visibility and storytelling efforts.

Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate media relations and communications plans to promote the accomplishments, current projects, and future goals of NSPDC, BCCER, and CRARS
Write and edit press releases, feature stories, and media pitches
Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers to increase press coverage of the three organizations
Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate interviews, statements, and responses on behalf of the three organizations
Identify and secure opportunities for op-eds, expert commentary, and feature stories
Track and analyze media coverage and prepare reports and strategic recommendations to improve media strategies
Identify and produce stories that highlight key projects, research, student and faculty profiles, regional collaborations, and community impact
Work collaboratively with teams from all three organizations to gather information, photos, and quotes for storytelling across digital, print, and broadcast platforms
Create content for •Chico State Today•, the University’s magazine, and social media channels that align with each organization’s brand and messaging priorities
Uphold journalistic standards, copyright, and ethical guidelines in all produced content
Develop and manage the production of major publications—including annual reports, newsletters, and impact summaries—from concept and content planning through writing, editing, design coordination, and final delivery
Collaborate with fundraising and development teams to write and produce donor appeals, stewardship communications, and materials for external funding partners
Provide or coordinate photography, videography, and multimedia support for communications projects
Support communication and logistics for events hosted by NSPDC, BCCER, and CRARS
Collaborate with University Communications and other Chico State partners to ensure alignment with institutional messaging and brand strategy
Track and analyze communications metrics (media coverage, engagement, reach) and prepare regular summaries for leadership
Use data insights to refine media and content strategies
Contribute creative ideas to enhance storytelling, visibility, and impact across diverse audiences
Provide ongoing strategic counsel to leadership on communications opportunities, risks, and messaging recommendations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field
Five years of experience in media relations, public information, publications, or storytelling roles
Strong writing, editing, and media pitching skills, with demonstrated success securing earned media
Knowledge of social media strategy, digital storytelling, and multimedia tools
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to adjust to change in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment (e.g., work environment, technology) and work within deadlines
Ability to work independently under general direction and function cooperatively and productively as a member of a unit
Preferred
Familiarity with environmental, agricultural, or regional development topics
