Responsibilities

Compensation Strategy: Design and manage base salary structures, merit increase processes, and bonus programs for both legal and non-legal staff
Market Analysis: Lead participation in annual legal industry salary surveys. Conduct regular benchmarking to ensure the firm remains competitive in "Big Law" or boutique markets
Annual Cycles: Oversee the end-to-end annual compensation review process, including data preparation, budget modeling, and the distribution of increase letters
Payroll Oversight: Partner closely with the Finance/Payroll department to ensure seamless integration between compensation adjustments and payroll execution
Compliance & Equity: Conduct regular pay equity audits and ensure firm-wide compliance with FLSA, Equal Pay Act, and local transparent-pay legislation
Incentive Programs: Manage the calculation and administration of performance-based bonuses, referral bonuses, and year-end distributions
Communication: Create clear materials to help employees and partners understand the firm’s total rewards philosophy

Required

A minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in compensation or payroll management
Previous experience within a law firm or professional services environment is highly preferred to understand billable hour structures and associate lockstep models
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, modeling) and experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., Workday, ADP, or UKG)

Preferred

CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or SHRM-CP/SCP is a plus
