The Manager of Clinical Engineering is responsible for managing the repair and maintenance activities of Biomedical Equipment staff and ensuring the proper use and performance of patient care equipment. This role involves overseeing staff activities, leading projects, and collaborating with support entities to enhance equipment management.

Responsibilities
Manages day to day work activities of all Clinical Engineering staff members including but not limited to directing work assignments, developing staff schedules, managing staff performance and productivity, onboarding and training staff and developing a workforce of high performing, engaged individuals
Leads and/or participates in system projects, including deciding on sole source service vendors, system service contracts, best practices and policy and procedure development
Produces, reviews and makes assessments of reports related to work completion, unfinished work, preventive maintenance completion rates and repeat equipment failures
Recommends equipment renovation, refurbishment, replacement or re-deployment based on equipment age, failure rate, cost of service and overall ability to support the clinical use for which it is intended
Collaborates with support entities to develop support plans for devices or systems that require multi-disciplinary support
Monitors monthly expenditures and works with management staff in recommending how best to control equipment service related costs
Functions as resource person to areas of responsibility. This may include providing instruction as to the safe and proper use of medical equipment or acting as a technical resource to assigned staff
May be required to perform safety testing and preventive maintenance on clinical equipment
May be required to perform complex repairs involving extensive troubleshooting to the component level
Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures
Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree
5+ years experience in biomedical engineering, working with health system hardware, software and equipment products
Ability to implement process improvements
Demonstrated customer service skills
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff
Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot biomedical devices and related equipment
Knowledge of healthcare operations and the use of medical technology in the healthcare environment
Preferred
Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) certification
