ITINERANT GIFTED AND TALENTED TEACHER, LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE

Responsibilities

Develops and monitors Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) to provide academic and affective (social/emotional) support for identified gifted students
Consults with classroom teachers and provides gifted education-related staff development targeted around school needs based on student, family and staff feedback
Provides staff development on strategies and appropriate materials to differentiate the curriculum and challenge gifted learners
Participates and supports in the school's Multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) process as it relates to the support of gifted and advanced students
Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement
Monitors, supervises, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy
Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators
Establishes and communicates to students clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; provides advanced instruction to students individually and in groups (caseload and FTE permitting), using various teaching methods and technology and adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style
Prepares, administers, and provides reports to families and teachers regarding student performance on whole grade universal screening assessments and individual assessments related to gifted identification; communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavioral and academic problems and to coordinate instructional efforts, especially in regard to twice exceptional students
Follows Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) rules and district guidance for identification of gifted and talented students and maintains accurate records of students in need of service

Required

Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field is required
Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
Must have one of the following (or be on track to finish within two years of hire): Gifted Education Core, Specialist or Director endorsement, Master's degree in Gifted and Talented Education from a regionally accredited college or university OR complete the 3 district Gifted & Talented PDUs for GT Certification (can be completed after hire)
Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education
Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us
Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position

Preferred

Hold a Master's Degree in Gifted and Talented Education is highly preferred
