Environment Field Services Intern

Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of minor wastewater treatment facilities to ensure compliance with state (Kansas Water Pollution Control regulations) and federal (Clean Water Act) environmental regulations
Prepare detailed inspection reports, outlining findings and necessary corrective actions
Establishes compliance deadlines for corrective actions
Submit reports to the facility and the Bureau of Water (BOW) within 20 working days
Conducts timely follow-up on compliance deadlines to ensure corrective actions have been implemented
Collect water samples from public lakes to assess the presence of a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB)
Document observations, including photographs, and complete the appropriate inspection forms
Submit reports to the Bureau of Water (BOW) HAB program within 2 days of collecting samples
Qualification
Required
High School, GED
Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State
Currently enrolled in a college program. Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to sites
Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent must be a minimum of 18 years old at the time of employment
As a condition of employment, it will be subject to a criminal background check
Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate: A valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate is a condition of employment for all employees of the State of Kansas
Preferred
Current college student, majoring in sciences such as biology, engineering, or earth sciences

Ability to follow directions and work independently

Ability to communicate in writing and in personal interactions
