Metallurgical Lab Technician I - 1st Shift - Repair Solutions

GKN Aerospace is reimagining air travel and is seeking a Metallurgical Lab Technician I to perform metallurgical lab functions, including testing and administrative duties to ensure compliance with customer requirements. The role involves checking test samples, preparing and certifying metallurgical tests, and maintaining quality standards in the lab.

Responsibilities

Checks test samples for dimensions using precision measuring equipment such as gages, calipers, scales, micrometers
Prepares/tests/evaluates/certifies all metallurgical tests required per internal production, customer and/or specification requirements
Monitors all work to ensure quality standards are maintained and adherence to all specifications and requirements
Program/run heat treat oven for test coupons and some production parts
Interfaces with engineering to coordinate testing and test results
Interface with Production Vstl’s to coordinate daily shipments
Maintains lab database with complete lab test results and accuracy
Releases product(s) for shipment
Mentors/provides guidance/assistance and training to junior metallurgical lab technicians
Maintains a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with company standards, customer and government regulations
Participate and support the assigned Kaizen Events, Internal & External Audits and support Metallurgical NADCAP Audits
Assists in the development and maintenance of a business culture, which supports the Company's overall business objectives and goals, in issues that involve “cost, quality, process, schedule and people”
Ensures the company's commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment through the establishment and support of Company policy and adherence to various government regulations
Fully complies with the "GKN Aerospace, Inc. Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government" in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government
Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned

Required

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
2+ years of metallurgical lab experience or related functions, preferably aerospace
Demonstrated knowledge of quality control, customer and NADCAP requirements
Demonstrated familiarity with drawings, testing specifications, hand tools, bandsaw, cutoff machine, etc. a plus
Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills
Working knowledge of alloys, e.g., titanium, aluminum, inconnel and columbium and acids

Preferred

GKN Experience
Experience with test coupons preparation including cutting, mounting, polishing, and etching
Experience with Tensile Testing of Metallic Material
Experience with Rockwell and Rockwell Superficial Hardness Testing
Experience with Micro-hardness Testing
Experience with Evaluation of Thermal Spray Coatings
Experience with Round Robin Test
