The Wall Street Journal is seeking a versatile and dynamic Senior Design Editor to join the New York Post's fast-paced newsroom. This role focuses on shaping visual storytelling across various platforms, including web, mobile, social media, and print.

Responsibilities

Art direct and design news stories and editorial packages for print newspaper and digital platforms
Design graphics, maps, and data visualizations. Produce multimedia content tailored for web and social platforms
Create photo illustrations for editorial and gif animations for homepage
Work under the direction of the Lead Design Editor to update templates, design systems, and style guides that maintain brand consistency
Stay ahead of industry trends, introducing new tools, techniques, and design best practices to elevate the Post’s content

Required

Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects)
Strong foundation of editorial print design and layout. Experience designing news stories, features, editorial packages and covers. Ability to recreate and evolve previous year's designs
Strong typography, information/visual hierarchy, image manipulation, photo research and editorial illustration
Deep understanding of print production process
Experience with CMS platforms for digital publishing (Wordpress, Drupal or other custom platforms) and an understanding of audience metrics (Chartbeat, Parsley, Metrics for News, etc)
Strong digital-first mindset with a deep understanding of mobile-first design, social media content creation, and data visualization tools (e.g., Mapcreator, Flourish, data wrapper, ai2html)
Proven leadership qualities and strategic planning skills, with the ability to motivate a high-performing design team in a fast-paced newsroom environment
Passion for news, sports, viral content, pop culture, and emerging digital trends
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate and justify creative decisions
Strong organizational skills with a meticulous attention to detail
Ability to adhere to brand and editorial style guidelines
Willingness to work on weekends and holidays as needed

Preferred

HTML, CSS and JAVAscript coding a plus
