Managing Director, Portfolio Operations & Value Creation

The Managing Director, Portfolio Operations & Value Creation will lead performance improvement initiatives and support management teams across industrial and business services companies to drive long-term value creation.

Responsibilities
Serve as a senior operating partner to CEOs and executive teams, providing thought leadership, credibility, and hands-on support across value creation initiatives
Partner with deal teams to align operating priorities with the original investment thesis and evolving value agenda
Act as a trusted advisor to management teams, helping diagnose challenges, prioritize initiatives, and drive execution in complex, fast-moving environments
Lead and support initiatives related to operational scaling, performance management systems, organizational design, and process improvement
Help portfolio companies implement management systems that drive accountability, transparency, and repeatable execution
Support growth initiatives including organic expansion, operational integration of add-on acquisitions, and de novo activity where applicable
Work with portfolio leadership to strengthen executive teams, functional leadership, and operating cadence
Partner with human capital and talent resources on leadership development, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness
Reinforce best practices across people-intensive, multi-site, and service-oriented business models
Identify common themes and opportunities across the portfolio and help develop repeatable playbooks, tools, and frameworks
Facilitate sharing of best practices across portfolio companies while tailoring solutions to individual business contexts
Provide structured updates and insights to internal stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and alignment
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 3 years in an operating role within a PE-backed, industry relevant company, with direct exposure to value creation, management systems, or scaling operations
Prior consulting experience, ideally 4+ years, with demonstrated structured problem-solving and initiative leadership (top-tier strategy firms preferred but not required)
Sufficient seniority, maturity, and presence to engage effectively with private equity partners, VPs/Principals, and portfolio company executive teams
Relationship-forward leadership style with the ability to build trust and credibility quickly across CEOs, functional leaders, and deal teams; strong gravitas required
Priority leadership styles: Captain, Persuader (Venturer optional)
Experience working in people-based, services-oriented, or multi-site business models, with a clear understanding of how people, process, and capability drive results
High intellectual horsepower, strong analytical rigor, and comfort navigating ambiguity in dynamic operating environments
Willingness to travel extensively and maintain a high-touch engagement model with portfolio company leadership
Preferred
Direct experience in industrials and/or business services sectors
Experience supporting or leading PE-backed exits, including exit readiness, diligence support, or CIM preparation
Exposure to high-velocity M&A and/or de novo expansion environments
MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred
